ITINERARY: Port of Sóller – trail of sa Figuera – pass of en Marquès - ses Moncades - Fornalutx

The trail of sa Figuera connects Port of Sóller with the village of Fornalutx, although there are several variations leading to Sóller or the viewpoint of ses Barques. However the differences in height are not excessive, making it a very pleasant walk.

The starting point of the itinerary is the final stop of the Port de Sóller tramline.

Take passeig des Través to carrer d'Antoni Montis, which follows the stream. Cross the stream of sa Figuera leaving the town centre behind and following the trail of sa Figuera. The road rises gradually through an area of olive groves. The hamlet of sa Figuera is situated on the left. It has a defence tower (Km 3.8) and further up you can admire the houses of es Bosc and Cas Bascós in the distance.

After walking 30 minutes you will reach the pass of en Marques. Walk up the road to the left. A few metres further up leave a cement road to the right. You can see the remains of the dry-stone trail of sa Figuera. Cross a barrier and continue up. Our path touches the cement road on several occasions. You pass several houses. The most neglected house is the house of Can Bonjesús.

A recently constructed track leading to a large house bars the way. Look for a path a bit further up below the house. Cross another barrier and follow the path along a poorly maintained channel. The path is in a poor state because the area is prone to landslide. Use the wire to overcome a very eroded section. Cross a barrier leading to a track. Go right through the olive groves. The terrain is now flatter. Cross a barrier near the houses of Can Verí, which have a voussoired door. Follow the path on the right with several cement sections. Our path crosses the old Balitx trail. Ignore it and follow the track.

You will shortly reach the area known as ses Moncades. On the sides of the track you will find plenty of “botja de cuques” (Anthyllis cytisoides). The trail of sa Figuera crosses the costa d'en Flassada, which connects Sóller with the viewpoint of ses Barques. A few metres further on, the track forks. Follow the path going up. A few metres further up take a path on the left between the dry-stone walls. You are now walking along the border between Sóller and Fornalutx, which explains the presence of a cross engraved on a stone by the path. Shortly afterwards you will come across the Sóller-Lluc road (Km 47.7).

Cross it and follow the road leading to Fornalutx. A few metres further down, you will see a road leading directly to Fornalutx after a few bends. Several sections of the road preserve their dry-stone paving. Follow the signs through the olive groves. The remains of a tile channel run parallel to the road. Soon afterwards you will reach the top part of Fornalutx. Enter the town via carrer dels Toros. Follow the street until you reach carrer de la Plaça, leading to plaça d'Espanya, the centre of Fornalutx. The walk finishes here.
